That is a very nice, and long overdue, tutorial. As a bit of a map nut, I am extremely fed up with repeatedly seeing terribly designed maps; which take no considerations for what an actual world might look like, and are simply recycled bits of older maps thrown together.
Admittedly it does take longer to produce and requires far more effort than your average person is willing to put into a map. But since it literally is the world your setting takes place in it is pretty damn important. Maybe with this people will finally start taking maps fucking seriously.
Apologies for the rant, but that was something I just had to get off my chest.

No worries; it was the desire for a more realistic kind of map compared to the ones seen thus far which inspired me to develop the technique. Unfortunately as you said it does take a long time depending on the size of the piece (the above took me about two hours, Wolfgang's World about a month) but the results are definitely worth it.

A) Nice tutorial. B) I agree that the time, while needed, is worth the output. My only regret is how many times a map is made and the use for it (a game) dies in six weeks. I would spend this much effort for a map of my worlds, but an on line game i would be less willing to spend the time. Just being honest. C) I do love how it turns out though.
